The Best Cities to Visit By Category

The second most question we always get asked is “where has been your favorite place you’ve traveled?” Which is basically like who’s your favorite child because after 24 countries I can’t decide! I always stumble over it because there are so many different things that come into play. Each country and city has its unique characteristics and it all depends on what YOU personally like to do when you travel. Lyle jokes that most of our vacations aren’t really vacations at all because we never just do nothing and he doesn’t think all that walking constitutes as a vacation ha. Doing nothing is pretty hard for me, especially if we are in a new place because I have to see and do everything. I thought it would be fun to make lists of our favorite cities for every type of traveler. If you are looking for adventure, romance, amazing food or our overall favorite cities then I have places for you, both stateside and International. I also listed some cities we are planning on going to in the next year. I am SO excited about some of these. Whenever people tell me they want to travel they always say they can’t decide but you just have to pick one and go. Also, I have a lot of new content coming in the next couple months- my top bucket list experiences I am planning, Airbnbs vs. hostels, a London Travel Guide that I will be working on with my cute friend who LIVES in London (she’s actually British, not American, so even better) and hopefully a giveaway associated with travel. I love to try and make travel easier and more doable for everyone so if theres anything you need help with or want to know, message me! Also, one my cute instagram husband is back around I will share some more of my fashion posts too so for now you just have to see my new things on my insta story. Thanks for stopping by and encouraging my passion for travel. You guys are the best.

ADVENTURE TRAVEL

1.Queenstown, New Zealand

2. Chiang Mai, Thailand

3. Southern Utah (yes this isn’t a city)

DSC_0161

Not only is Queenstown the adventure capitol of the world but it is also unbelievable stunning. New Zealand in general is breathtaking and would have also been on our list of favorite places. All the locals told us the South Island was the prettiest but I think both the North and South Island have so much to offer. The North Island has hobbiton, the waitomo glow worm caves, Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Rotorua with its natural hot springs and more. The South Island is just covered in beautiful lakes and it has Kaikoura one of the prettiest little beach towns. Between zorbing, sky diving, bungy jumping, white water rafting and hiking to name a few, you will have the adventure of a lifetime. P.S.- the ONLY way to do NZ is by renting a camper van and just covering it all.

Thailand in general is amazing and a place I already want to go back to. Chaing Mai is North of Bangkok and is amazing. We went during the Lantern festival and that was one of my favorite experiences. They have tigers, 4 wheeling, snake shows, elephants, tuk tuks, bamboo rafting and more. They seriously had it all. We had so much fun in Thailand and it was one of those places unlike any other. Thailand in general is awesome and I hope you all go!

Utah is one of the best states for adventure and beauty and I couldn’t narrow it down to just one city. My second choice would have been Oregon. Southern Utah has the big 5 National Parks and they are all so different and the red rock is gorgeous. There are tons of amazing hikes and spots for canyoneering, rock climbing, camping, exploring, swimming and so much more. You will never run out of adventure here.

ROMANCE

1.Venice, Italy

2. Paris, France

3. Woodstock, VT

DSC_0012

this is actually Burano a little town by boat from Venice but it was one of the Venice “activities” we did

Venice is a place you just wanna get lost in. With all the magical food Italy offers, the amazing views of the canals and lazy days just wandering through the tiny little streets it literally oozes romances. Gondola rides where you’re serenaded with singing, beautiful architecture and nights spent eating treats in the Piazza San Marco I think this place and all Italy for that matter is so beautiful.

The only reason I didn’t put Paris as number one is because Paris has too much to do for it to be laid back and romantic for us. But the eiffel tower alone is one of those romantic places that whether you see it during the day or at night it’s romantic. Pack your own blanket and have a picnic during the day or stroll around it at night on your way to or from dinner. Between the sunset Seine river cruises, the fancy dinner spots, or the sidewalk cafes where you can watch the world go round, Paris makes you want to fall in love…or stay in love. 😉

Vermont in the Fall is money. That Fall foliage trip surprised all my dreams. The towns are beyond dreamy with some of the most romantic b&b’s you’ve ever seen. Little shops, quaint restaurants and the prettiest colors you will ever see. Woodstock is covered with cobblestone streets, historic buildings and wooden bridges. When we are older this will be a trip I would love to take every year. I am still dreaming about all the houses I picked out for us on our stroll around town.

COOL VIBES

1.Austin, Texas

2. Amsterdam, Netherlands

3. Machu Picchu, Peru

DSC_0175

Austin Texas is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. I met this woman the other day who said she didn’t like Texas and I turned to her and asked if she had been to Austin and she said no just Dallas and I said there’s your problem. Austin encompasses everything. It’s got an amazing music scene, art scene and foodie scene. It was so young and hip and fresh but it also was surrounded by beautiful nature and really cool watering holes. Most importantly, Texas has the best breakfast tacos ever and I miss them so much.

Amsterdam is one of the coolest little cities we went to. Everyone is so outdoorsy and rides bikes everywhere. They have so much history with the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House. I loved the streets, the amazing little markets, the random fairs and the beautiful tulips everywhere. When I think of Amsterdam I think of young hip people with cool style and the amazing buildings on canals. I could go back and eat pancakes there forever.

Out of the three world wonders we have seen Machu Picchu is hands down the coolest and quite possibly the coolest one we will see. You can just sit there and take it in all day.

THE FOOD

1.Barcelona, Spain

2. Charleston, SC

3. New York, New York

If you want to read about how amazing the food in Barcelona is you can go here. We’ve been back just a couple weeks and I am still trying to recover from all that amazing food goodness.

Charleston is an absolute dream and this and NYC would be my two favorite U.S. cities. Charleston has all the best Southern food and the best restaurants ever. I even read once that it was a foodies dream. My dream is to move down to Charleston. I promise you will fall in love with this place and the amazing food.

My list of things to do in NYC is 80% food. The food is amazing. When I’m away I miss Levain and Molly’s and Jacob’s Pickles. You can spend all day eating in this absolutely glorious city. I love it with all my heart.

if you want to know our favorite places we’ve been

1. Bavaria, Germany

2.London, England

3. Switzerland/Italy

DSC_0324 copy

We always forget about this place but as soon as it’s brought up we both say it was one of the coolest things we have ever seen. We hiked up so we were completely alone with these views of the castle and I can still picture it. I think this is one of the coolest things we’ve ever experienced. It was getting dark and it was almost magical and we both just kind of sat there. I am still obsessed with this place and this picture.

London is one of the only places we’ve traveled to that I think I could live in. I love absolutely everything about London. I am obsessed with British accents, Kit Harrington, Fish and Chips, London buildings and architecture, Harry Potter and the list goes on and on. When we were there we came across a movie premiere in Piccadilly Circus with Brad Pitt and it was one of the most unreal experiences and it made quite an impact.

DSC_0147 copy

Switzerland is Utah on crack. It is one of the cleanest and prettiest cities we’ve ever been to. I had to keep asking Lyle to stop the car to take pictures every other minute. I highly recommend Switzerland. Italy is one of the places that Lyle and I both consider our favorite. It was the first country we went to in Europe and we fell in love with the $5 pizza, the history and the people. We have already said Italy is on our list of returns. These are being combined because you can easily do both in one trip, and I would.
