Charleston, SC

Our little getaway to Charleston was one of my favorites. Even with family in South Carolina I hadn’t ever had a chance to explore the charming town. We celebrated my birthday on Friday in New York City and then left early for Charleston the next day. I once read that Charleston was considered one of the most romantic U.S. cities and I couldn’t agree more. With the cobblestone streets, flowers and the beautiful sunsets it was perfect. I’ve always wanted to live down South so I like to pretend the trip was visiting our future home but even living close to this place would be awesome, I don’t know why anyone ever leaves. The accents were charming and the people were the friendliest ever. I was standing in front of this hotel with this old man goes “well you look fantastic today!” and just kept on walking. Everyone was so helpful and kind there.

The first day we went to Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit for breakfast. Its the tiniest little place (usually with a long line) but I don’t think we even ended up waiting long! If you come out and go to the left theres a little park you can sit and eat in since theres not much seating in Callie’s. Afterwards we wandered some of the cute little shops before heading over to Rainbow Row and the Waterfront Park. They have horse and buggys you can ride on and hear all the history of the city but the horses made me sad so we didn’t do that. Another thing you can do is go to the Charleston City Market for some souvenirs and random things. We got the best strawberry lemonade and pulled pork sandwich there.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     IMG_6467IMG_6466

I got the cinnamon one and Lyle got one of the savory egg ones. We also split a blueberry cream one. So yummy.

We ventured over to BrittleBank Park to watch the sunset before dinner. We celebrated my birthday dinner at Burwells Stone Fire Grill and it was AMAZING. Not only was the service great but the steak, potatoes and Smores dessert were on point.

Afterwards we went and got more dessert for take out…haha. It’s literally impossible to go to Charleston and not eat as much food as you can, its all so good. I read that this coconut cake from the Peninsula Grill was like the best thing ever. Bobby Flay says its his favorite dessert of all time or something like that. It was pretty good, I guess I’m not a huge coconut person but it was really moist.

Then we went to the Boone Hall Plantation next. Where to even begin? It’s one of the dreamiest places ever. It’s the oldest working plantation anddd where scenes from The Notebook were shot. The outside was used for shots of Allie’s Summer home. We both love history and this place is full of it. You can take a tram ride throughout the property with a tour guide who seriously knows everything. I wish pictures were allowed inside the home because I was getting major home inspo. For those who have been there is the staircase not unreal?! They had strawberry picking while we were there and even do a pumpkin patch in the Fall, guess we have another reason to come back this Fall…

The iconic Waterfront Park pineapple fountain. The first time we saw it was in the afternoon and literally hundreds of kids were in it so we decided to snag some pictures of it first thing the next morning. There wasn’t a single person there the next morning and the lighting wasn’t so harsh.

Some other yummy foods we ate:

Pages Okra Grill

We met the cutest locals there who told us this was the best restaurant down there. The waffles had pieces of corn and jalapeno in them. A different and yummy take on chicken and waffles.

Crave Kitchen Mac & Cheese

DO NOT GET IT TO GO. It seriously got everywhere haha. It was really good though, you could put any meat you wanted into it.

I actually wanted to stay in this pink hotel but it was completely booked out….which is good because it was too expensive anyway. We stayed just outside of Charleston, something we usually do when staying in new cities because its way cheaper. I don’t understand why people drop hundreds on a hotel, if you’re visiting somewhere you are never even in your hotel, I promise you.

Spent a day at Folly Beach.

We lucked out and always found free parking spots. If you find one, you can pretty much park and hit up all the cute little streets and shopping and awesome food places. Dear mom and dad, please retire here because I will visit you ALL THE TIME.

Some other places/things we wanted to do:

Isle of Palm & Sullivan’s Island

Eat at Grill 225- they had the most amazing rooftop seating that I saw on our last night, dang

Cypress Gardens (still closed from the storm but supposedly opening later this year!)

Blossom for their red velvet bread pudding

Marion’s Farmers Market

Virginias on King for brunch

Brown Dog Deli

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

Lyle and I recently started referring to ourselves as foodies because we are all about that food when traveling. I researched lots of food places and I could give you tons more because the options are endless. I honestly don’t think you could go wrong with wherever you choose…just know most places require a reservation!

Love, Cait
